Meta is translating your ads without asking. Advantage+ creative translation is on by default at the ad level in Meta Ads Manager and rewrites your primary text, headline, and the text on your images into up to 12 languages. It lives in its own card, separate from Advantage+ creative enhancements, so turning enhancements off does nothing to it.

Turn it off

Six steps at the ad level. Tap a number to tick it off.

  1. 1

    Find the card

Open your ad in Meta Ads Manager and scroll below Advantage+ creative enhancements to the separate Advantage+ creative translation card. If it reads Turned on: Text, Overlay, click Edit.

  2. 2

    Switch to selective

Under Manage translations, pick Translate selected ad creatives instead of the recommended Translate all ad creatives and text. Two sub-options appear, Ad text and Text on Media, both still checked.

  3. 3

    Uncheck every language

Under Languages, uncheck Spanish, then click See other languages (11) and uncheck Select all other (11 languages). Meta will occasionally leave the bottom 3 on so you need to scroll down to clear them individually.

  4. 4

    Confirm

The banner Select at least 1 language above to enable translation appears and the translate options grey out. Click Done.

  5. 5

    Verify the card

Back on the ad, the card must read Turned off: Text, Overlay. If it still says Turned on, reopen and repeat.

  6. 6

    Repeat after every edit

Any change to creative, call to action, destination URL, or instant form turns it back on most of the time. Do this as the last step before you publish, every time.

Watch out for

  • Don't assume turning off creative enhancements covers this. Translation is its own card with its own Edit button. Enhancements can show 2/5 while translation is still fully on.
  • Don't trust the language checkboxes until you see the error banner. Unchecking Select all other doesn't always clear every language. The red Select at least 1 language line is the only proof.
  • Don't publish right after an edit without re-checking. Editing the call to action, copy, destination, or instant form flips translation back on.

FAQ

  • Why are my Meta ads showing in Spanish or another language I didn't write?

Advantage+ creative translation is on by default with all 12 languages selected. It rewrites your ad text and the text on your images for anyone whose Meta language setting matches one of those languages.

  • Does turning off Advantage+ creative enhancements also turn off translation?

No. Translation is a separate card below enhancements in Ads Manager with its own Edit button. Enhancements can show 2/5 while translation is still fully on.

  • Can I translate into just one language instead of all 12?

Yes. Choose Translate selected ad creatives, tick only Ad text or Text on Media, and leave one language checked under Languages.

  • How do I see what the translated ad looks like?

The Preview dropdown inside the dialog shows Before and After per language, with See details for Ad text and Text on Media.
